PBT has poor thermal conductivity and a low melting point, making thin walls highly susceptible to frictional heat deformation. XTPROTO resolves this by optimizing cutting parameters, using ultra-sharp PCD diamond tools with large rake angles to minimize friction, and applying high-pressure, flood-coolant or mist-cooling systems to dissipate heat instantly, ensuring crisp, burr-free, and melt-free thin-walled structures.

Glass fibers are highly abrasive and cause extreme tool wear and surface roughness (fluffing) if machined with standard carbide cutters. XTPROTO exclusively utilizes premium PCD (Polycrystalline Diamond) diamond-coated tooling, combined with high-speed cutting parameters. This cleanly shears the glass fibers rather than pulling them out, guaranteeing a smooth Ra 0.8–Ra 1.6 μm surface without post-machining delamination.

Can machined PBT parts be tapped with ultra-fine or deep custom threads? Are they prone to stripping?

Machined PBT threads can be highly precise but are notch-sensitive and prone to chipping or stripping if handled poorly. We use specialized thread-milling instead of traditional tapping for custom fine threads. For applications requiring high-frequency assembly or heavy loads, we recommend and provide the installation of stainless steel threaded inserts (Helicoils) into the machined PBT components to prevent stripping.

Can you provide custom coloring or laser marking for machined PBT components?

Yes. Since PBT does not respond to traditional anodizing like aluminum, we offer custom plastic dyeing, specialized chemical texturing, and polyurethane painting to meet your exact color specifications. Additionally, we provide high-contrast laser engraving (marking) for part numbers, tracking codes, or corporate logos directly onto the as-machined PBT surfaces.
