Sinker EDM Services
Sub-micron accuracy (±0.005 mm), mirror finishes (Ra ≤ 0.2 μm), and razor-sharp corners on tool steels up to 65 HRC. We eliminate tool deflection and manual polishing for your most demanding molds, dies, and aerospace components.
Advanced Sinker EDM Services
At XTPROTO, our full-service Advanced Sinker EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining) solutions deliver exceptional precision for complex cavities, deep ribs, and intricate geometries that defy conventional CNC milling. By utilizing custom-shaped electrodes and controlled electrical sparks, we remove material from conductive metals without mechanical force, ensuring high accuracy and zero stress, even on fully hardened tool steels and aerospace-grade alloys. Whether for injection mold tooling, precision dies, or complex aerospace components, our CNC sinker EDM capabilities support both prototype and production runs, delivering sharp internal corners, fine surface details, and the tight tolerances required for your most demanding applications.
What Is Sinker EDM Machining And How Does It Work?
Sinker EDM machining (also called ram or conventional EDM) is a type of CNC machining that shapes metal using controlled electrical sparks instead of cutting tools. A custom electrode and the workpiece are submerged in dielectric fluid, and sparks gradually erode material to create deep cavities, sharp internal corners, and intricate geometries.Because it’s a non-contact process, sinker EDM can machine hardened steels, exotic alloys, and delicate parts without distortion, achieving tight tolerances and precise, repeatable results for tooling, molds, dies, and other precision components.
Wire EDM vs Sinker EDM
Both Wire EDM and Sinker EDM are precision electrical discharge machining processes used for hard materials and intricate geometries. While Wire EDM excels at profile cutting and sharp contours, Sinker EDM is ideal for deep cavities and complex internal features.

Sinker EDM Capabilities
Our Sinker EDM capabilities bridge the gap where traditional CNC milling reaches its limits, specifically targeting the manufacturing pain points of deep, narrow ribs, sharp internal corners, and complex blind cavities. By utilizing a force-free spark erosion process, we eliminate the risk of tool deflection and mechanical stress, allowing for the precise machining of fully hardened tool steels and exotic conductive alloys without distorting the material’s integrity. This technology enables the realization of intricate geometries that are otherwise impossible to achieve, ensuring exceptional dimensional stability and ultra-fine surface finishes. From rapid prototyping of high-tolerance aerospace components to the large-scale production of precision injection mold inserts, we provide the technical expertise to transform your most challenging designs into high-performance industrial realities.
Technical Precision & Material Mastery
To meet your strictest technical and accuracy requirements, our facility achieves micron-level tolerances (±0.005 mm) and uniform mirror-finish surface textures (Ra ≤ 0.2 μm) directly from the machine, completely eliminating the need for risky manual bench polishing. We possess the unique capability to erode complex blind cavities, razor-sharp internal corners (sub- 0.02mm radii), and deep, narrow slots with aspect ratios up to 20:1 where traditional milling fails. Furthermore, this force-free process allows us to seamlessly machine high-hardness and exotic materials—including pre-hardened tool steels up to 65 HRC, Titanium, Inconel, and Tungsten Carbide—without introducing thermal stress, micro-cracking, or microstructural distortion to the base metal.
Quality Assurance & Technical Trust
Dimensional drift in deep cavities and micro-cracks from the recast layer are common failures in low-end EDM. At XTPROTO, we eliminate these risks through a rigorous, multi-stage quality control ecosystem specifically tuned for high-tolerance manufacturing.
